HIRNFLIMMERN // 1910–1928

When shadows learned to move

17 films: the 1920s, with a short prelude from 1910. From Nosferatu and Caligari to experimental visions of Poe.

Before monsters speak, bodies, spaces and shadows must tell their stories. This programme moves from artificial life and divided identities to vampires, haunted houses and prehistoric creatures. Alongside familiar names are detours such as The Unknown and the short American Usher adaptation. The short films from 1910 and 1928 are complete shorts. Silent means no spoken dialogue here. Archive versions may include music; intertitle language and presentation vary between copies.
